A day of silent practice - sitting and walking meditation with teaching and group discussion.
We are all seeking dependable happiness and well-being. When our strategies for happiness and well-being are dysfunctional, but we believe they are functional, we suffer. We know intuitively that if we can just let them go, we can be free of stress and suffering. It sounds good, but how do we let them go?
If we try to let go, we often end up causing more stress. Instead of striving to let go, mindfulness practice teaches us to hold the pain of not knowing long enough to see our actions and their results clearly, without distortion. When we see that previously cherished strategies and behaviors actually cause us suffering, we spontaneously let them go.
This process is effortless. It happens automatically. In the same way we put down a hot plate that burns our hand without any confusion, we drop whatever actions are burning the heart of our lives.
